Intern’s efforts help conserve clothing
The clothing collection conservation project at HHS got an extra pair of helping hands during the winter and spring months, thanks to a Holliston High School student. Ariana Abelow assisted Collection Volunteers by determining the condition of the clothing collection and computerizing that section of the catalog. This is the third year that the Society has hosted an intern from the high school.
Her efforts helped launch the kickoff program for 2005, “Treasures from the Attic,” presented by Terri Chamberlain and Carrie Midura in January. Collection Volunteer members Arlene Abbott, Sheila Adams, Nancy Chamberlain and Terri Chamberlain shared their knowledge about the collection, to help Ariana to fully update the catalog.
Upon completion of her internship, Ariana was introduced at a recent HHS Board meeting, where the Collection Volunteers conducted an informal ceremony in her honor. Ariana received a token of appreciation, and the Volunteers made a motion to award her a free membership for the year, which passed unanimously.
Ariana, who is interested in fashion design, will begin undergraduate studies in Pennsylvania in the fall.

The Society Gets Help from Two Interns
Ms. Caillen Bollas (left) and Ms. Jessica Goldberg (right) from Holliston High are helping out the Society for the academic year. They are continuing the cataloging and conservation of our collection. They have been entering the items into our database, determining the current condition of the actual items, and tagging them with their accession numbers. They then store the items with special preservation techniques. They have been working on the clothing collection. Starting from the top with hats, they have examined pieces from the 1800's right up to 'Jackie Kennedy' style hats from more recent times. They have also helped Society volunteers organize the non-historic reproductions used during Education Week.
The Society would like to acknowledge the time and effort put in by these two young ladies. Thank you for helping to preserve your local history!
