HHS Harvest Fair Planning Meeting - 2/23/12

On Thursday, February 23 at 7:30, a meeting will be held at the Asa Whiting House to begin planning for the Historical Society's Annual Harvest Fair that will take place in September 2012. For over thirty years, the Harvest Fair has been the Society's main fundraiser. The income from the Harvest Fair allows the Society to keep membership and event fees low and to maintain our buildings and grounds.

We encourage all members to get involved with this popular event.

Old Houses - March 14

Drive through the center of Holliston and you will see elegant old homes from several periods. Walk around downtown and you will see details of stained glass windows and outbuildings. Watch a slide show of the old houses of Holliston, and you will learn the history of those homes down through the years.

On March 14 at 7:30 p.m. you can see such a slide show at the Holliston Historical Society. We will begin with a show produced for Holliston Cable Access Television in 1991, narrated by Dorothy Rees.

Milford Casino Impact Meeting - 2/15/12

The Holliston Board of Selectmen has scheduled a special public meeting to discuss the impact that the proposed $850 million Milford casino would have on the town of Holliston. The meeting will be held at the Adams Middle School auditorium on Wednesday, February 15 at 7:30pm and is open to the public.

The proposed location for the casino is near the intersection of Rt. 495 and Rt. 16, right over the Holliston line and close to the Holliston Town Forest.

Sunday Mar 11, 2012 Historical Society Library Open 2-4

Just a reminder that the library will be open Sunday afternoon (3/11/12) from 2-4 pm.  It is open to members and the public.  If you have questions regarding the library you may call the historical house  at 508-429-5795  or send an e-mail to librarian@hollistonhistoricalsociety.org   If you are unable to come to Holliston to do your own research, we may be able to help you out - just send us an e-mail. 

Feb. 18 and 19, 2012 - TRAIN SHOW

            The 8th annual Train Show on Saturday and Sunday, February 18 and 19 from 10 AM to 4 PM both days will feature expanded displays in a NEW venue: Upper Town Hall, 703 Washington Street, Holliston.

            Coastal Mountain Railroad returns with an award-winning HO scale modular layout. The scenery is carefully detailed and captures an active branch line set in New England during the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. Using the latest technology, three to four trains are operated simultaneously to move a variety of freight and passenger traffic around the layout.

Christmas Open House 2011 - Recap

The Holliston Historical Society opened its doors to the public with "Christmas Throughout the Years."  Four time periods were featured in the Asa Whiting House:  Victorian Era; 1930's to 1940's; 1950's to 1960's; and 1970's to 1980's.  There was something for everyone!
